Bio

Alana Lea Wilson is the craftsperson behind builderburner ceramics. She is a Canadian artist whose bright colourful objects in clay range from functional to sculptural and explore the themes of home, belonging, nostalgia and longing.

She received her MFA in ceramics from Pennwest University Edinboro  in 2019, and her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design University in 2010. Alana has participated in residencies, given lectures and workshops, and exhibited her work across Canada, the United States, and in Australia.

Her love of nature and travel are the biggest inspirations for the elements and repeating patterns she works with. Alana is also inspired my William Morris' patterns and sees her tile installations as three dimensional wallpapers.

Over the years she's worked as an arts administrator, a fire lookout, a tree planting cook, a tree planter, and as a barista in order to continue her studio practice. She has also received funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, Arts Nova Scotia, and the CBRM Creative Catalyst. Currently she lives in Sydney, NS with her cat, Onyx and is grateful for her studio space and community in the Eltuek Arts Centre.
